April’s Special Training focused on fundamentals (starting with our most basic kata – Taikyoku Shodan), timing drills (to improve our footwork), bunkai (the basic application of kata) and kumite (2 attack sparring). A welcome reminder to all that we need to balance our focus on kata and weapons training with the application of these techniques.

Sensei Masakazu Takahashi began his karate training under Master Tomosaburo Okano in 1961. In 1971, he came to America and began his teaching career. The Takahashi Karate Dojos, located in Old Bethpage and Mount Kisco, New York, were established over 40 years ago and offer traditional martial arts training to all ages. Sensei Takahashi heads the U.S.A Kenkojuku Karate Association and is the highest ranking Kenkojuku Shotokan karate master in the United States.
